What are the best Sims 4 trait mods?
Sims 4 has a fantastic trait system that forms the basis for your Sims personalities, and these traits can have a significant impact on how they interact with the world.
While the base game does provide a lot of great traits, it is still lacking in some respects, and you’re going to need mods to flesh this system out even further.
Thankfully, there is no shortage of great trait mods to choose from.
The Best Sims 4 Trait Mods
We’ve rounded up the most helpful trait mods from across the web so that you can spend more time playing god and less time searching.
Here’s our list of the 35 best Sims 4 trait mods:
35. Arrogant Trait
Kicking off our list, we have the Arrogant Trait mod.
While Sims with this trait benefit from being extremely confident, they are absolutely devastated by failure and will easily become embarrassed in front of others if their confidence is broken.
Arrogant Sims are incredibly fun to play with, especially given how many Sims have irritatingly weak bladders.
This makes it a constant challenge to ensure that these arrogant Sims don’t end up embarrassing themselves by failing to make it to the bathroom on time.
34. Feminine & Manly Traits
If you’ve ever wanted to create a girly girl or manly man character, this is the trait mod for you.
These traits help your sims become more in tune with their chosen genders, and it can be really interesting to play with.
For instance, a female sim with the feminine trait will be naturally better in the kitchen and more family-oriented, while male sims with the manly trait will be better at some careers, bad in the kitchen, and prone to being confident and self-assured.
The Feminine and Manly traits mod is really well designed, and if you want to play a family that follows archetypal gender roles, it’s definitely worth downloading.
33. Blessed & Cursed Traits
This trait mod is actually hilarious, and we’ve had a lot of fun playing around with it.
Basically, this mod adds two custom traits that can either make your Sim’s life better or much, much worse.
The blessed trait will make your Sim incredibly lucky, and they will be much more fortunate throughout their lives.
However, the cursed trait does the exact opposite, and if you assign it, you’re essentially making your Sim’s life a living hell.
So will you be a benevolent god, or will you curse your Sims to feel like they just entered one of the best first-person shooter PS4 games without any weapons?
32. Introvert Trait
The introvert trait is something that really should have been in Sims 4 from the beginning, but thankfully, this mod gives us the ability to add it in.
As the name suggests, this mod makes your Sims more naturally introverted. When assigned, it will be harder to maintain relationships, but social needs will decay slower, and other skills will go up faster.
It’s definitely a delicate balance, but if you’re introverted in real life, playing with this realistic trait mod will just feel normal.
31. New Emotional Traits
This Sims 4 trait mod doesn’t just add one or two new traits, it provides extreme versions of the traits that were already in the game.
For example, you can have a neat freak sim that isn’t just mildly concerned about keeping their homes clean, they will be completely obsessed with keeping their homes as spotless as possible.
Similarly, nerdy Sims will be constantly talking about their favorite topics like they’re giving a speech at a Trekkie convention.
While they are taken to an extreme, this trait mod definitely adds a lot more diversity to your game, and now every character will feel much more unique from their neighbors.
30. Handsome Trait
If you want your male sim to be as desirable as Johnny Silverhand from Cyberpunk 2077, this is the trait mod for you.
This mod makes it easier for male sims to make friends, and female sims will be much more interested in chatting you up.
Your Sim will definitely have a lot more influence if you assign them this trait, so take care to use your newfound power responsibly!
29. Autism Trait
Neurodiversity representation is important, and this mod helps make Sims 4 both more realistic and inclusive.
When this trait is assigned, Sims will be prone to repeating the same activities, talking about their favorite subjects, and they will have difficulties communicating during social interactions.
Created by someone who is on the spectrum, this mod is perfect for making the world of Sims 4 look a bit more like our own.
28. Alcoholic Trait
When it comes to realistic traits, there is a darker side which is what this mod tries to convey.
With the alcoholic trait, your Sims will be dependent on alcohol in order to stay happy, and they will be prone to becoming depressed for no reason.
This definitely helps highlight just how difficult alcoholism can be to live with, and playing a Sim with this trait can definitely be sobering. (No pun intended.)
27. New Hobby Traits
Moving on to a trait mod that is much more lighthearted, we have Hobby Traits that adds brand-new traits such as scribe, horticulturist, tinker, artisan, and worldly, to name a few.
Each of these hobby traits comes with specific wants that, when achieved, can give your sim a happy buff.
There aren’t nearly enough hobby-related goals in the vanilla game, which makes this mod so much fun to play with. Sims will finally feel like they have something more to do than sleep, eat, and work!
26. Bossy Trait
This is another trait that seems like it should have been in Sims 4 from the beginning, and it is hilarious when paired with the arrogant trait.
When this trait is assigned, your chosen Sim will be extremely haughty, feeling like they are superior to everyone around them, which leads to them thinking they can just order other Sims around.
This trait definitely makes for some hilariously annoying Sims, but we can’t deny that it is true to life!
25. Anxious Trait
This anxious trait mod is another that makes Sims 4 feel much more true to life.
With this trait your Sim will be unable to control their anxiety, leading to an increase in panic attacks and a likelihood of breaking down in situations that normally wouldn’t faze a Sim without this trait.
Basically, your Sim will feel like an underprepared protagonist heading into one of the hardest video game levels of all time knowing they have no chance of winning.
If you struggle with an anxiety disorder in real life, this mod may hit a little too close to home, but it definitely is worth downloading for the realism it can provide.
24. Bipolar Trait
This trait is another that made our list, not because it is fun, but because it is realistic and makes Sims 4 feel more like real life.
When a Sim has this trait, they will be more prone to mood swings and mania. They will become depressed for no external reason, and it will be tough to keep in a stable frame of mind.
Just like the autism and anxious traits, the bipolar trait will be very challenging to play with, but that’s what makes it all the more compelling.
23. Two-Faced Trait
No, we’re not talking about the Batman villain, but rather a trait that makes your Sims into a backstabbing, untrustworthy bastard.
Sims with this trait will smile while lying to your face and then turn around and completely screw you over.
Although it sucks to be on the receiving end of their behaviors, it can make for some hilarious situations if you’re looking to cause as much discourse as possible in your Sims 4 world.
22. Spiritual Trait
None of the Sims games have ever really touched on spirituality, which seems like a bit of an oversight.
Well, this mod fixes that by giving you the ability to make your Sim get more in touch with themselves and nature.
Good karma and positive vibes will now be extremely important to Sims with this trait, and they will go out of their way to avoid situations and activities that could promote bad karma.
Meditation, yoga, singing, and Woohoo-ing are the name of the game when you play a spiritual Sim!
21. Naïve Trait
We all know someone who is naïve in real life, and now we can make our Sims be the same!
If you give a Sim this trait, be prepared for them to open up easily to everyone and not pick up on social cues that other Sims would easily.
While the upside is they won’t get embarrassed easily, their tendency to trust everyone can lead to some awkward situations that are hilarious to watch playout.
20. Boyfriend & Girlfriend Material Traits
These traits work well if you assign them to Sims in the same household that you want to play matchmaker with.
Sims with either of these traits will love to spend time with their partners and get a mood boost from doing so.
No longer will you have to manually force couples to spend time together, but they will naturally gravitate towards each other as most partners do in real life!
19. Depression Trait
Real depression is much more than simply feeling bummed after losing to one of the toughest video game bosses for the 15th time in a row, and this mod highlights just how much of a struggle it can be.
If you assign this trait to one of your Sims, be prepared for emotional issues, sadness debuffs, and difficulty eating and sleeping. You definitely don’t want to play with this trait if you’re looking for an easy experience.
Whether you’re looking for a challenge or just want to make Sims 4 feel more realistic, this mod is definitely one that is worth downloading.
18. Mama’s Witch Trait
If you’re playing with the Sims 4: Realm of Magic game pack, you’re going to want to install this trait mod.
Mama’s Witch trait makes witch Sims much more friendly and open than they would be otherwise, and it allows them to gain certain skills even faster.
With this mod, your witches will always be focused and never become tense or bored. It definitely makes playing as a witch much more fun, and we definitely recommend it if you have this game pack.
17. Author Trait
While Sims 4 lets you make your Sims aspire to become an author, there isn’t a trait that really compliments it. This mod changes that and makes being a writer a lot more engaging.
With this trait mod, your Sim will be able to find inspiration in all most anything, and they will constantly be creating worlds in their heads.
These Sims will actually want to spend time writing, which makes total sense if they are striving to become successful authors.
If you have a Sim with the Author Aspiration, this is one mod you’re not going to want to play without.
16. Internet Kid Trait
Darn kids with their interwebs and books of faces, they’re always glued to their screens! Back in my day we blah blah something walked 10 miles in the snow.
With the Internet Kid trait, your Sims will spend a lot of time sitting at their computers, playing the best real-life simulation games, and they will never, ever get bored of technology.
Although it’s meant to be used by teenage Sims, it works for adults too, which is fitting because most of us really never grew out of our dependency on technology. It’s not a phase mom!
15. 7 New Traits Teen Pack
Speaking of traits geared towards teen sims, this mod provides seven new traits that can only be assigned during a Sims’ teenage years.
The traits added by this mod include imaginative, cute, partier, daredevil, nerd, emo, and girly. These custom traits all come with their own benefits and drawbacks.
While nerd Sim may be smarter and spend their time playing the most popular Nintendo games of all time on repeat, the downside is they aren’t social and will only hang out with other nerds.
Similarly, partier Sims will love to party and be social, but their fun and social bars will decay much faster.
This mod is definitely perfect for making teen Sims feel more dynamic!
14. WooHoo Lover Trait
This trait is a fun one, and it definitely is one of the most popular. Sims assigned this trait will be addicted to WooHoo and will get buffs every time they do the deed.
These buffs last for four hours, and if you plan your WooHoo sessions strategically, you can keep these Sims very happy.
Is it practical? Not really. But it definitely can be hilarious.
13. Baby Maker Trait
If you’re looking to roleplay as Gengis Khan and start your own dynasty, this mod is for you.
While WooHoo-ing with a Sim isn’t guaranteed to get them pregnant, this trait does make it much more likely.
However, as with anything, we urge you to use this trait responsibly, even though we know that you probably won’t.
Granted, we can’t really blame you.
12. Culinary Inept Trait
Let’s face it, most of us aren’t culinary geniuses, and we’re lucky to be able to make a grilled cheese sandwich without burning the bread.
This trait brings this real-life struggle into Sims 4 so that your characters can struggle just as much as you do.
If you want your Sim to know the sinking disappointment of having ruined breakfast yet again, this is the mod for you.
11. Siren Trait
The siren trait is perfect for Simmers who want to create a character that is perpetually flirty and dangerously alluring.
While the downside is that relationships decay faster than usual, it isn’t very hard to maintain them, since most Sims will naturally gravitate towards one with this trait.
Although this is better suited for a female sim, there isn’t anything stopping you from assigning it to anyone and watching its effects unfold.
10. ADHD Trait
Like the autism, anxiety, and bipolar traits on this list, this ADHD trait isn’t for Simmers who don’t want a challenge.
When this trait is active, your Sims will become bored much more quickly, meaning you can just plop them down with one activity and assume they’ll be satisfied.
You’ll have to stock up on the best GameCube games of all time just to make sure they’re satisfied, and you might as well give them a MotionMaker Gaming Mat just for good measure.
While it’s definitely a challenge to play with this trait, it’s definitely one of the most realistic traits on our list.
9. Zoophobic Trait
If you want your Sim to be scared of absolutely every wild animal that exists, this mod is for you.
The Zoophobic trait does exactly what it says it does and makes any Sim it’s given to absolutely terrified of any wild creatures they may come across.
It can be a real struggle to keep them from having panic attacks, and it’s definitely a new challenge that you just can’t get in the base game.
8. Insecure Trait
As opposed to simply being a shy trait, this trait mod ensures that your Sim is always the most insecure person in the room. At least, unless someone else shares the same trait.
If you give a Sim this trait, be prepared for them to literally never be confident and almost always be embarrassed by daily occurrences.
Get ready for a real struggle if you decide to use this mod, because every day is going to be incredibly difficult.
7. Shyness Trait
If you want your Sim to be shy without being wholly insecure about themselves, this mod offers the perfect middle ground.
With the shy trait, most of your Sim’s social interactions will become hilariously awkward, and more often than not your Sim will utterly fail at them.
They’ll feel much more comfortable playing the best racing games of all time on their computers and only venturing outside when necessary.
While it may not be as difficult as playing with the bipolar trait, or even the insecure trait, being shy will still make getting through the game much more challenging.
6. Reaper Trait
Although you could cheat and simply add the Grim Reaper to your household, this mod lets you play as the Grim Reaper by simply applying the Reaper trait to a chosen Sim.
When this trait is active, the Sim that has it will literally become the embodiment of Death, giving up their own mortality as a trade-off.
While this may sound great, it can get dark pretty fast as Sims will quickly become apathetic as those around them grow old and die.
This mod definitely isn’t for those who want to have a happy ending to their Sim’s lives.
5. More Traits For Kids
Kids in Sims 4 often get the short end of the stick when it comes to traits and personality. This trait mod fixes this oversight by unlocking traits that were previously only available to adults so that children can be assigned them.
This means you can finally make kids snobs, materialistic, ambitious, clumsy, and much more, which, to be honest, feels more realistic.
Now your kids can be kleptomaniacs who steal the best Pokémon games of all time from their friends, then turn around and act snobby about it. It’s great!
4. Lot Traits
This mod is a little bit different, as it doesn’t give traits to Sims, but rather the lots in Sims 4.
Created by Simularity, this mod allows you to select new traits for your lot that can give you some interesting bonuses.
For instance, if you choose the Possessed Grounds Lot trait, your home will become a hot spot for ghosts and other late-night spooks.
There are currently eight custom traits to choose from, and we definitely love having the option to make our lots as unique as the Sims who live on them.
3. Drama Queen Trait
We all know someone in our lives who is a total drama queen, and how your Sims can have the same pleasure.
With this trait, your Sims will be prone to freaking out over the smallest inconveniences or if things don’t end up going their way.
It’s honestly really hilarious, though at the expense of the other Sims around them.
When it comes to custom traits, we honestly think this one should have been included in Sim 4 from the beginning, but at least we have it now!
2. The Singer Trait
It really is a shame that singing in Sims 4 doesn’t get as much emphasis as piano or guitar playing, and if you’re trying to create a musically inclined Sim, you’re going to be really limited without this mod.
With the singer trait, Sims will be naturally better at singing and mastering the art.
This is perfect when you pair it with a singer career mod so that you can truly make the most of being able to sing your Sim’s heart out.
Even if you’re not planning on creating a singer yourself, it is still a nice, realistic addition that makes the world of Sims 4 feel a little more fleshed out.
1. Gamer Trait
Of course, we had to give the number one spot to the gamer trait. It’s kind of our thing, and if you’re reading this, it’s probably yours as well!
With the gamer trait mod, your Sims will be able to level their gaming skills much faster than average Sims, and this can end up earning you a good amount of simoleons if you enter gaming tournaments.
Whether you want your Sim to play competitively or just be super hyped about the Simlish equivalents of the most popular video games right now, this is one trait that we highly recommend.
Summary
Sims 4 has a lot of great traits that you can use to customize the personality of your Sims.
However, the base game is limited, and these 35 mods can help it feel a little more realistic and immersive.
While some of these trait mods will make the game more challenging to play, we definitely suggest giving them a try if you want to make the denizens of Sims 4 feel more diverse and alive.
