Ocelot is a type of mob in the popular video game Minecraft. In the game, Ocelots are passive and can be found in jungle biomes. They are known for their spotted fur pattern and have the ability to be tamed by the player. Ocelots can be tamed using raw fish, but it requires patience as they are initially skittish and will run away. Once tamed, they can be kept as pets and will follow the player around. Ocelots have the useful ability to scare off creepers, a dangerous enemy in the game. Overall, Ocelots add an interesting and helpful dynamic to the gameplay experience in Minecraft..

Even if you’re an avid Minecraft player, chances are you might have never seen an Ocelot. Just like their real-life counterparts, they are quite shy and skittish. They were introduced in Minecraft since the 1.2.1 update and have been present ever since.

They resemble real-life cats of the same name. They have a yellow coat and green eyes. They are one of the fastest mobs in the game and will flee if you’re too close. However, they don’t drop anything apart from experience, so don’t go around killing these poor adorable animals if you can help it. Why? That’s because if you tame them, they can be pretty good companions.

Where to find Minecraft Ocelots?

Ocelots are likely to spawn above grass blocks at sea level. By default, that’s y=63. They are a rare passive mob that can be found in Jungle biomes. This includes the Jungle biome itself but also the Bamboo Jungle, Sparse Jungle, and Meadow as well. Note that the latter three are only for the Bedrock edition.

They mostly spawn as adults; however, there is a small chance for kittens to spawn as well. In the Java edition, they are counted toward the hostile mob cap. This means they will not spawn on the peaceful difficulty despite being passive.

What Do Oceleots even Do?

Ocelots are modeled after real-world wildcats of the same name. They are rare and found in Central America. They have dappled coats and have keen sight and hearing. That’s pretty helpful since they are nocturnal predators. In Minecraft, they behave similarly. They are known to attack chickens as well as baby turtles and like to stalk their prey before going in for the kill.

Breeding Ocelots

It can protect you if you befriend one and keep it around your base. Ocelots keep hostile mobs away and give you some breathing room. While they can’t be tamed, you can earn their trust by giving them raw cod or salmon. Try to look for them in the jungles and offer them some fish.

Be careful about how you earn their trust. They will approach you if you hold a raw salmon or cod within ten blocks. If you move or stop holding the item or even turn your head, they might flee and avoid approaching for a few seconds. They are quite skittish but be patient.

If you remain patient and feed them raw salmon or cod until heart particles show, you have earned their trust. Be sure to build a fence so they can’t escape. Once you feed them and they enter love mode, they can then produce an ocelot kitten. The kitten will automatically trust you. After that, you can even keep breeding them. Feeding the babies raw salmon can accelerate their maturity as well.

Minecraft Ocelot Special Characteristics

Like all spawns, Minecraft ocelots have their special quirks, traits, and capabilities. For instance, they can attack through doors and fences. So if you make one angry, try to maintain distance. Hiding behind a door won’t help against these fierce little cats.

Apart from that, we already mentioned how effective they are at keeping hostiles away. Creepers stay six blocks away from Minecraft ocelots. On the Bedrock version, phantoms tend to stay 16 blocks away. This distance can keep you alive, so it pays to have an ocelot around you.

Lastly, they are immune to fall damage. They would, of course, try to avoid falling, but it is good to know that your ocelot friend can survive the highest falls.

Ocelots are a rare and elusive creature in the popular game Minecraft. They were introduced in the 1.2.1 update and have remained a part of the game ever since. Resembling real-life cats with their yellow coat and green eyes, ocelots are known for their speed and skittish behavior. They are one of the fastest mobs in the game and will flee if a player gets too close. However, they don’t drop any items when killed, so it’s best to avoid harming them.

Despite their shy nature, ocelots can be tamed and become loyal companions to players. They are found in Jungle biomes, including the Jungle, Bamboo Jungle, Sparse Jungle, and Meadow biomes in the Bedrock edition. Ocelots usually spawn as adults, but there is a small chance for kittens to appear as well. In the Java edition, they are counted towards the hostile mob cap, meaning they won’t spawn on peaceful difficulty.

To tame an ocelot, players can offer them raw cod or salmon. By holding these fish within ten blocks of the ocelot, they will gradually earn trust. Once the ocelot enters the love mode, they can be bred to produce ocelot kittens. Feeding the baby ocelots raw salmon will accelerate their growth into adults. Ocelots also have special characteristics in the game, such as the ability to attack through doors and fences and the capability to keep hostile mobs away.
