Far Cry 5 released in 2018 and has gained a loyal fan base. With its open-world gameplay and story-driven narrative, fans have taken it a step further by creating mods that enhance the game experience. This article lists the top 10 mods for Far Cry 5, including improvements in graphics, gameplay mechanics, and added weapons. Some mods introduce new missions and characters, giving players fresh content to explore. These mods offer a range of options, from realistic visuals to humorous additions, allowing players to customize their Far Cry 5 experience according to their preferences..
What are the best Far Cry 5 mods?
Far Cry is one of Ubisoft’s biggest cash cows, and this fifth installment in the series is one of the best ever made.
However, while the vanilla game has a lot to offer, once you play through it a few times, it loses a bit of excitement.
Fortunately, the modding community has created no shortage of enhancements and add-ons for this game, and we’ve rounded up the best of them.
The 10 Best Far Cry 5 Mods
There are a lot of mods for Far Cry 5, but not all of them are high-quality and worth downloading.
The mods we’ve selected for this list have been chosen based on their number of endorsements and their impact on gameplay.
So, if you’re ready to take on Eden’s Gate once more, here’s our list of the 10 best Far Cry 5 mods:
10. Competent Weapons
Kicking off our list, we have Competent Weapons, a mod that aims to make the guns of Far Cry 5 pack more of a punch!
The best PS5 FPS games are only as good as their weapons, and while the vanilla weapons in Far Cry 5 are alright, this mod makes them great.
Competent weapons make a ton of changes to the firearms in the game in order to make them more responsive and intuitive to handle.
Some of the most significant changes include making every weapon have down-sight aiming and a reduction of hip fire spread from SMGs, shotguns, and pistols.
It also greatly tightens the shotgun spread overall while reducing the ADS spread for sniper rifles and standard rifles.
Moreover, LMGs still have a wide range of spread but have been tweaked to become more accurate during periods of sustained firing.
These changes greatly improve the gunplay for Far Cry 5 to make it more in line with some of the best FPS games, such as Call of Duty.
9. Player Clothing & Heads
If you’ve ever wanted customization options for your player character, you’re not going to want to miss out on this mod.
As the name suggests, this mod is all about giving your character a little more style, and it has a ton of options to choose from.
For both female and male characters, there are a ton of new clothing options, as well as accessories and head presets taken from NPCs.
Want your character to have John Seed’s face? You can do that with this mod, and it is absolutely hilarious!
Of course, you can always use Appearance Mods for John Seed to make him look different if you want his face but don’t want to be twins.
There are also random NPC head options to choose from if you don’t want to look like one of the main characters.
We love that this mod gives us the ability to customize our characters, and it is something we absolutely can’t play without anymore.
8. Rich Cult
You would think that such a powerful cult would have more money for players to loot off its member’s corpses, but unfortunately, this isn’t the case.
As it turns out, the vanilla Eden’s Gate members are pretty strapped for cash, though as a doomsday cult, we guess they figure they don’t need money.
Well, as much as this makes sense for the cultists, it kind of sucks for players looking to grab money for supplies and weapons!
Fortunately, this mod changes things so that now regular cultists have a chance to drop up to $75, while certain high-ranking members can drop up to $10k!
The Rich Cult mod also comes with an optional resistance points mechanic that allows you to earn money and perk points for completing specific actions.
While we wouldn’t recommend using this mod on your first playthrough the second time around, it is nice to be able to get more money from cult members.
It definitely makes killing them off feel much more rewarding since now you know you can get quite a pretty penny from them!
7. Player Beards, Hairstyles, & Colors
From the mod creator that gave us Player Clothing & Heads comes this other customization mod that is a must-have in our option.
There’s a reason why the best Skyrim character mods are so popular, and it’s because gamers love being able to customize their characters!
Fortunately, this mod gives that ability to Far Cry 5 players, and it works perfectly with Player Clothing & Heads.
This mod adds 4 new hair colors, light blonde, light red, red, and dark brown, along with 11 new hairstyles for females and 6 for males.
It also adds 5 new beard styles for male characters taken from NPCs, and we really wonder why they weren’t included in the vanilla version.
Sure, this mod isn’t game-changing, but it is nice to be able to make characters look a little more unique.
If you’re like us and enjoy making your characters stand out, do yourself a favor and download this mod ASAP.
6. Additional Perk Points
Okay, so perk points aren’t incredibly hard to come by in Far Cry 5, but it’s easy to overthink what the best way to use them is.
Nothing’s worse than spending points in the early game only to end up regretting it by the mid-game and wishing you could take them back.
Well, this mod makes it so that Far Cry 5 is a lot more generous with how it hands out perk points, so you don’t have to worry so much.
When this mod is installed, along with prepper stashes, you can find hidden magazines that give you an additional perk point.
Although there will always be at least one magazine near these stashes, in some locations, there can be more than one, so keep your eyes peeled.
With all these additional perk points, you can easily take all of the perks you could ever need.
Plus, if you misuse some, you won’t feel so bad since there is now plenty to go around, thanks to this mod!
5. New Game Head Start
Far Cry 5 may be one of the best open-world PS4 games, but if you don’t want to start over completely from scratch, this mod is for you!
As the name suggests, this mod gives players a head start. It’s basically a save file that starts you right after the prologue.
However, it also provides you with $100k and 40 perk points that you can use right at the beginning!
Although the New Game Plus mode in the game allows you to keep your gear, unspent perk points, and money, this mod does still have its uses.
For instance, not everyone gathers a ton of money during their first playthrough, and this mod gives you just enough to have a solid head start.
Moreover, we kind of like that it doesn’t give you any weapons, vehicles, or prestige items, so some challenge remains when starting a new game.
4. Simple & Realistic Reshade
Far Cry 5 may not be one of the most graphically demanding PC games, but it does have impressive graphics for its age.
The Simple and Realistic Reshade mod helps enhance the inherent beauty of this game in a way that helps make it feel a bit more true-to-life.
Built to increase immersion, this mod doesn’t use heavy shaders that will tank your FPS but, instead, simple tweaks that make the world pop.
All of the colors have been improved to be less washed out and more vibrant, while the contrast has been increased to make small details stand out.
The lighting has even been overhauled so that it behaves in a more realistic way when interacting with assets.
If you want Far Cry 5 to look its best, we highly suggest giving this mod a try, though you may also like the mod we have coming up next as well!
3. Vibrant & Natural Reshade
Like the Simple and Realistic Reshade mod, the Vibrant and Natural Reshader was designed to make the world look a lot better.
However, unlike the previous reshader, this mod greatly boosts the saturation of the world to make it a lot more vivid.
With this mod installed, the game takes on a much warmer tone that really brings out all of the colors.
Whereas the vanilla game is rather washed out and white, this mod makes everything seem much more lifelike.
It’s like getting a glimpse of Far Cry 7 in a game that was released nearly a decade ago!
Best of all, it has very little impact on performance, and the most you’ll see is an FPS drop of 3–4 frames.
While it’s really hard to pick a favorite between this and the reshader above, we ultimately decided to place this one higher.
We really like how warm this mod makes everything, but we’d recommend trying them both out to see which one’s your favorite!
2. Better Ballistic Hunting and Optics
Up next, we have another weapons mod, but this one makes is a complete overhaul of all the weapons in Far Cry 5.
The mod’s creator, ChinuaTheRageBear, really went above and beyond with this one, and it’s something we can’t play without.
What this mod does is overhaul the damage, magazine size, fire rate, caliber, and bullet velocity of weapons, and it even changes gravity to be more accurate!
Damage is now based on the muzzle energy of a given weapon so that you won’t have weapons with the same caliber doing wildly different amounts of damage.
Magazine sizes have also been tweaked to reflect their real-world counterparts, and it even factors in after-market extended mags.
Some calibers have been changed to be what they are in real life. For example, the P226 is now a .40 Smith & Wesson.
Additionally, the fire rates get the same real-world treatment, while all of the bullets have been tweaked to move at or near realistic speeds.
We think you get the picture. Basically, if you can think of it, this mod overhauls it, and the game is better off for it!
1. Redemption
Taking our number one spot is a mod that turns Far Cry 5 into one of the best video games of all time, and it’s an absolute must-have.
This mod changes two things in particular, how many Resistance Points you earn and how areas behave after you liberate them.
In the vanilla game, it is obnoxiously easy how many Resistance Points you can earn, so this mod adjusts things to make it more challenging.
Now RP rewards for fighting cult members are 1/10th what they were in the base game, so you will have to do more to earn more.
For example, killing cultists and blowing up convoy trucks will net you around 5-20 RP, while destroying shrines or silos will reward you with 100 RP.
Additionally, enemies will respawn after you’ve liberated a region so that they won’t be an empty void any longer.
While these are the main things this mod does, it also improves the bonus for undetected outpost takeovers and makes parachutes deploy faster.
This mod makes the game feel a lot more balanced, in our opinion, and we definitely recommend giving it a try during your next playthrough!
