What are the best Code Vein mods?
Code Vein is an incredible game that combines Soulslike gameplay with a post-apocalypse caused by vampires!
This game is both fun to play and visually stunning, but like many modern games, it also suffers from a variety of performance issues.
Fortunately, Code Vein has a robust modding community that has created no shortage of improvements that make Code Vein even better!
The 10 Best Code Vein Mods
We looked at several different mods across the Nexus to find which ones are the most worth downloading.
The mods that made our list were chosen based on their popularity, ratings, and how much they improved the game.
So, get ready to head to the Nexus after reading our list of the 10 best Code Vein mods:
10. School Uniform
Kicking off our list is an anime game staple that we’re surprised wasn’t included in the base game!
Being able to wear a cute school uniform is basically a must in any of the best PS5 anime games, and this mod adds one to Code Vein.
The School Uniform mod adds numerous different colored uniforms that are honestly really cute, and they fit the tone of the game well!
There are many different colors to choose from, so you can easily find one to suit the appearance of your character.
While this isn’t a huge game-changing mod, we certainly enjoy having the option to wear different school uniforms!
Plus, how can an anime game NOT have school uniforms as an outfit option!? It’s basically blasphemy!
9. Fox Ears
Arguably the only thing more iconic in anime than school uniforms is the best anime waifus with fox ears!
Fortunately, this mod by Pling94 ensures that your character can go around rocking some foxy ears to compliment their uniforms.
This mod replaced the cat ear muffler accessories, and there are both pointy and droopy ears to choose from.
You can also customize the color of your ears so that they match whatever outfit your character’s wearing.
Now, if you really want to complete the look, there is also a Fluffy Tails Accessory mod by Renpyon you can download.
So, if you really want to play as a cute fox girl in a school uniform, you absolutely can! After all, what’s an anime game without cute animal girls?
8. Playable Mia Karnstein
Mia Karnstein is an amazing NPC, but unfortunately, you never get to play as her in the base game!
Thankfully, the modding community has solved this problem by giving you the ability to play as every version of Mia.
There are 8 versions of Mia to choose from, along with all of her masks and veils that you can choose from.
Playable Mia Karnstein is also compatible with many other Mia mods, including those that change her outfits.
We really enjoy being able to play as this great NPC, especially given how many options there are to customize her outfits.
While you can get close to creating Mia with the character creator, it’ll never be 100% correct, which is what makes this mod worth downloading.
Mia Karnstein is one of the best characters in the game, and if she’s your favorite, you definitely won’t want to pass this mod up!
7. Playable 2B
If you’re a fan of anime games, chances are you’ve played one of the best PS4 games, Nier: Automata.
This game introduces players to an android known as 2B, who has quickly become a favorite anime girl among fans.
Well, if you’re a 2B fan, you’re in luck because this mod allows you to bring her into the world of Code Vein!
With this mod installed, you can play as the loyal android 2B, and the creator of this mod even included realistic skirt physics.
Although we became attached to this character thanks to her personality, of course, we can’t deny she also has an amazing design.
While this mod comes with her full Nier: Automata outfit, there are also two alternative versions, one without her mask and the other featuring a leotard!
Of course, if you’re a fan of her outfit but don’t necessarily want to play as her, we’ve also got a mod for that!
6. Colorable 2B Outfit
The Colorable 2B Outfit brings 2B’s iconic dress into the game by replacing the 7th outfit so you can take out monsters in style!
This outfit comes in both dress and leotard varieties, and its colors are completely customizable, so you can tweak them however you like.
While it does conflict with the Cruz Outfit, Cute Sweater, and Murasame’s Outfit, this really doesn’t impact much, since you probably won’t be wearing much else with this dress!
We do have to say that the physics on this dress is static, as the creator found that trying to add them led to glitches and lowered FPS.
However, as nice as cloth physics are, honestly, it’s a worthy trade-off for being able to rock this outfit with our characters!
Best of all, it doesn’t seem out of place at all when compared to the clothing options in the base game, so it doesn’t hinder immersion at all.
Even if you’ve never played Nier: Automata, the Colorable 2B Outfit is way too cute not to add to your mod list!
5. Partner Enhancement
Like many of the best Xbox One games that have companions, the partners in Code Vein sometimes need a bit of help to make them useful.
That’s where Partner Enhancement comes in, and basically, what it does is give your companion a major boost in many areas!
With this mod, players will see their partner’s stats get a decent boost, as well as their weapon output damage.
Their speed and flexibility are also increased, as well as the damage of gifts and their frequency of use.
Partner Enhancement makes it so that your companion will be much less likely to let you down when you need them most, which is definitely a huge improvement.
Once your partner is up to snuff, you may also want to check out the More Difficult Boss mod by the same creator, HaoJun0823.
This difficulty mod makes each boss a unique challenge, and with a more useful partner, it can be a great way to test your skills!
4. Invisible Mask 1
This is another aesthetic mod because when you’re playing an anime game, looks are extremely important!
Essentially, what this mod does, is make your purifier mask invisible so that your character doesn’t have to look like they’re wearing a gas mask 24/7.
We love having the option not to have the mask visible, kind of like how some games give you the option to make helmets invisible while equipped.
Sure, it’s a relatively minor change, but once you start using this mod, you’ll never want to play without it!
This is especially true if you’re wearing any of the outfit mods we mentioned above, since the masks can kind of interrupt their aesthetic.
The creator of this mod also has another that makes the inner frame of the masks invisible as well, so you can have a completely visible face!
Each of these mods has separate files for male and female characters, so you only have to download one if you just want to remove the masks from a specific gender.
Sure, invisible masks may not be lore friendly given the miasma the Lost radiate, but you have to admit sometimes a bare face just looks the best!
3. Improved Visuals And Performance
So, as we mentioned in the beginning, Code Vein is a great game, but it does have some performance issues that can give players problems.
While there are many fixes available as mods, this one is the most comprehensive overhaul we’ve been able to find on the Nexus.
Improved Visuals and Performance does a ton of things to make Code Vein run more smoothly, including reducing the weird blurring effects in the base game.
It also makes objects in the environment appear sharper and with more detail in a way that doesn’t impact FPS.
Speaking of FPS, it also gets rid of the awkward stuttering this game is prone to, as well as the random frame rate drops.
Some of the other impressive changes this mod makes include better draw distances, high-quality textures, improved particle effects, and better tone mapping.
With this mod, Code Vein can now run at a solid 60 FPS at 1440p, though it does increase the time of loading screens.
However, the trade-off is that these longer loading times make it possible for more assets to load reliably, lowering the risk of FPS drops.
Really, we feel like these are improvements that should have been released in an official patch, and we certainly can’t play without them now!
2. E3FX
E3FX is another enhancement mod that we absolutely can’t play without anymore, as it makes the game look absolutely amazing.
While Code Vein always looked good, this visual mod makes it look like one of the best PS5 exclusive games with next-gen graphics.
This mod corrects does a lot of things, including color correction, eye brightness adaptation, and tweaks to the sharpness, bloom, and contrast.
However, this mod does come with some requirements, including 1440p resolution or below and low to medium anti-aliasing.
It isn’t recommended to try and use this mod with 4k resolution unless you have an incredibly powerful GTX 1080 GPU or above.
On average, this mod will impact your framerate by around 10 to 15 FPS, but when paired with the performance mod above, it isn’t such a terrible decline.
What we really love about this mod is that it makes everything seem much crisper than the default settings in the base game.
It also removes a lot of the overexposure that makes the base game sometimes seem washed out and less colorful.
The increase in contrast also helps even the smallest details really pop, which makes the world feel a lot more alive.
1. UE4 Reshade – True HDR
Taking our number one spot is the UE4 Reshade – True HDR, which does an amazing job of bringing this game’s colors and special effects to life.
What this mod does is simulate the True HDR shading method that was first seen in games created using Unreal Engine 4.
It combines a series of tweaks to make the game appear much sharper and more cinematic, with precise depth, color, and visual effects.
UE4 Reshade also comes with controls that you can use to toggle the various effects. For example, the end Key toggles the main effects, while Page Down toggles the depth of field.
What we particularly love about this mod is that it really helps the characters and surrounding landscape stand out.
Whereas the base game tends to look a bit washed out with its fog effects and lighting, True HDR increases the contrast and bloom to make everything pop.
It also changes the depth of field to be more focused on your character, though this can be toggled off if you don’t like the background blur.
This has definitely become our favorite reshader, and since installing it, we haven’t been able to go back to the vanilla settings.
If you really want to make this game look incredible without turning it into one of the most graphically demanding PC games, this is the mod for you!
