You can share Waypoints and locations in one of three ways:
- In the Waypoint Manager, press the new Chat button next to a Waypoint. The location will be pasted into the chat UI for you. Add some context if desired, then press Enter. You can use this with /msg or server channels (if present).
- In the chat UI, type
/jm ~
and press Enter. The command will be replaced with your current location. Add information or edit as needed, then press Enter. - In the chat UI, manually type in a location between square brackets. See location format options below:
Location Format
A location must minimally have the x and z coordinates, but any of the following is possible, and the order you use doesn’t matter:

A location consists of 2 or more name:value pairs, separated with commas. Any of the following values is supported:

Map a Multiplayer Server
Overview
As of JourneyMap 5.1.3, there is no server-side mechanism for generating a map of a multiplayer server. However, if you are a server owner (or can get access to a copy of the server’s world data folder), there is a workaround:
Workaround
- Copy the server world data folder down to your local PC and load it as a Minecraft singleplayer world.
- In JourneyMap, go to J > Options > Advanced and set “AutoMap Poll Frequency” to the lowest value allowed (500ms). (This is the amount of time JourneyMap lets Minecraft take a break between region files. Running Automap can cause lag if you try to keep playing while it is running. Lowering the polling rate increases the lag, but reduces the total time it takes to Automap the world.)
- In JourneyMap, run J > Actions > Automap for all regions. Keep in mind Automap will do just the dimension you’re in, and only the surface if you’re on the surface. Or if you’re underground, only the vertical slice (chunk), you were in when you kicked off Automap. If you want to Automap multiple slices or dimensions, move to the corresponding area and run Automap again.
- If you’re intending to share the results with other players, note that any waypoints you create will go into the same folder as the map image tiles.
When it’s done, the generated map image tiles and waypoints will be in .minecraft/journeymap/data/sp/{worldname}
. To use the results when connecting to the server again, you’ll need to copy that folder’s contents to the one JourneyMap uses for your server connection: .minecraft/journeymap/data/mp/{servername}
. If you want to share the results with other players, simply zip up the folder and give them these instructions.

Install Forge
1- Go to JourneyMap Files on CurseForge, find the version of JourneyMap you have, and read the Changelog for the exact version of Forge you need. Usually it is the Recommended build of Forge.
2- On the Minecraft Forge Downloads page, click the version of Minecraft you are using, and locate the “Recommended” installer.
3- Download the “Installer” link of the release to get the Forge installer jar.
4- If your Minecraft Launcher is currently running, you’ll need to shut it down now. If you don’t, the new Profile won’t appear until you restart the Launcher.
5- After it has downloaded, double-click the installer jar and a small dialog window will appear:
6- Select the Install Client option and press OK. It will install a new “Forge” profile in your Minecraft Launcher.
Configure the Forge profile
1- After the Forge profile is installed, run the Minecraft Launcher.
2- In the Minecraft Launcher’s Profile drop-down menu, select the new “Forge” profile. Click the Edit button:
3- Optional: You can edit the Profile Name if desired. Ex: “Forge 1.7.10”
4- If you have enough RAM, it is highly recommended that you allocate 1GB or more. Enable the checkbox next to JVM Arguments and use the default “-Xmx1G”. If you need to allocate less or more than 1GB, and aren’t comfortable with changing the value, see Tutorial: Giving Minecraft more RAM for details.
5- Locate the Game Directory location on your computer. This is where Minecraft is installed. On Windows, this is usually %appdata%/.minecraft
. On OSX, this is usually ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft

Install JourneyMap
- If it doesn’t exist yet, create a “mods” folder in the Minecraft directory (see above).
- Put the JourneyMap jar file into the mods directory.
- Use the Forge profile in your Minecraft Launcher and JourneyMap will be loaded for you. Happy mapping!
- If everything is installed correctly, you will see a “JourneyMap available” chat message in Minecraft. (If you don’t see this, chances are good you don’t have the correct version of Forge in your Minecraft launcher profile. See How to update your Minecraft Profile.
Try it Out!
- Start Minecraft and connect to a single player or multiplayer world.
- If everything is installed correctly, you will see a “JourneyMap available” chat message in Minecraft.

Overview of Topographic Maps in JourneyMap
JourneyMap’s Topographic Maps let you see the elevation contours of your world. You can customize the topographic map properties and colors in (.minecraft/journeymap/config/5.2/journeymap.topo.config) according to what looks best to you, or what you want to emphasize.
Here’s how it works:
So, given a world height of 256 blocks, a palette of 32 colors will create 32 elevation contours, each with a contour interval of 8 blocks high.
- 1st color: y 0-7
- 2nd color: y 8-15
- etc.
Customization
The topographic maps config file .minecraft/journeymap/config/5.2/journeymap.topo.config can be edited with a simple text editor. You can make changes to it, save it, and see the results immediately in JourneyMap without a need to restart.
The file has the following properties:
- showContour: Whether to show a contour line between contour intervals. Defaults to true.
- landContour: Hex color (#rrggbb) of the contour lines on land. Ignored if showContour is false.
- waterContour: Hex color (#rrggbb) of the contour lines on water. Ignored if showContour is false.
- land: Quoted, comma-delimited list of hex colors (#rrggbb) for land terrain. The number of colors determines the contour intervals (see Overview above).
- water: Quoted, comma-delimited list of hex colors (#rrggbb) for water. The number of colors determines the contour intervals (see Overview above).
- configVersion: Used by JourneyMap to track configuration changes. You can ignore this, and don’t need to change it.
If you get the file hopelessly broken, don’t panic. Simply delete it and restart Minecraft, and a new one will be created for you.
Choosing Good Colors
In truth, finding a “one size fits all” set of colors for topographic maps isn’t likely. Most real-life maps have nonlinear gradients customized to work best with the unique terrain features of a specific area. For example, colors that help you see elevation changes clearly in a place like Kansas, US (very flat) would not work well in the neighboring state of Colorado and it’s Rocky Mountains.

It is pretty easy and simple to use, which makes it very useful for those who are just wanting a simple map exploring Mod to keep everything organized. It is quite detailed and has a great interface whether you are using it while playing Minecraft or viewing your map from a web broser. JourneyMap Mod Minecraft also works in either single player or multiplayer worlds, which also includes MultiVerse-enabled servers, with no server-side mod absolutely needed. You can see a variety of maps such as a daylight map, a moonlight map, cave maps (seen by vertical slice), Nether maps, and even End maps. On these maps, you can see nearby monsters and other players as well as having the option to save any copy of any map as a PNG file for later.

- Right click, Run as Administrator and press OK to install Forge. (You can skip this step if youve installed Minecraft Forge)
- Open Start on desktop => Open Run (Or you can use the Windows +R keyboard shortcut)
