Amazon as well as other tech giants in the industry is facing multiple difficulties and hardships which might take a lot more effort and time to solve. However, it does not mean that it would stop or limit its will to expand more and more. CEO Andy Jassy told the Financial Times that Amazon wants to “go big” with its physical grocery store business even more in the future.

Amazon Go was introduced 6 years ago, after Amazon purchased Whole Foods for almost $14 billion in 2017. It is marketed as the world’s most advanced retail chain that will give buyers the experiences like no place else. As a result, it was well-recognized and surprised many of us once we went shopping in Amazon stores. There are several things that you might only see at Go stores which are shopping with Alexa or shopping without cashiers. Moreover, with the base of Whole Foods, the quality of fresh food there is secured to be good to great because Whole Foods is already a well-known brand for healthy organic foods.

Even though physical stores only account for 3.4 percent of overall business and are only developing slowly, Amazon still wants to dream big. Traditionally, most of us still find more joy and happiness when we actually do the shopping. When going to the store, you might take a closer look at the specific product that we wish to purchase. Especially when it’s food because only shopping might feel like a trap once we do not get what we expected.
Jassy added “We’re hopeful that in 2023, we have a format that we want to go big on, on the physical side. We have a history of doing a lot of experimentation and doing it quickly. And then, when we find something that we like, doubling down on it, which is what we intend to do.”

Even though Amazon is laying off up to 18,000 employees and shutting down several physical stores including book, fresh and grocery stores, the company is still planning more for the future. Being one of the top tiers in the market, it has several advantages and technology to actually turn this plan into reality. The company is slowing down the physical store expansion, however, is already planning to open new locations in the near future. Hopefully, Amazon Go Grocery will be more accessible so that more people could try shopping at, like IKEA. For more updated news, visit this website daily.
