The Ice and Fire mod 1.12.2 → 1.16.5 is a popular mod for Minecraft that adds dragons, mythical creatures, and new biomes to the game. Created by modder Raptorfarian, this mod aims to add a fantasy element to Minecraft gameplay.
The mod introduces two new types of dragons: ice dragons and fire dragons. These powerful creatures can be found in new biomes added by the mod, such as ice spires, fire mountains, and dragon lairs. Players can interact with the dragons, tame them, and even ride them into battle. The mod also adds other mythical creatures, such as griffins, hippogryphs, and pixies.
In addition to new creatures, the Ice and Fire mod adds new items and mechanics to the game. For example, players can craft dragonsteel weapons and armor, and use dragon eggs to hatch baby dragons. The mod also introduces new mechanics for hunger, weather, and combat.
To use the Ice and Fire mod, you will need to have Minecraft Forge installed on your computer. You can then download the mod files and add them to your Minecraft game directory. It’s important to note that mods can be incompatible with different versions of Minecraft, so make sure to check the version requirements of the mod before installing it.
Once you have installed the Ice and Fire mod, you will be able to explore new biomes, interact with mythical creatures, and access new items and mechanics within the game. The mod also includes configurable options, so you can adjust the settings to your liking.
It’s important to note that mods are not officially supported by Minecraft, so use them at your own risk and make sure to backup your game files before installing any mods. Additionally, using mods can affect the performance and stability of your game, so it’s a good idea to have a computer with decent hardware specs to ensure a smooth gameplay experience.
The Ice and Fire mod is a popular mod among Minecraft players who enjoy adding a fantasy element to the game. With its impressive dragons and new biomes, this mod can provide hours of new gameplay content and is definitely worth checking out if you’re a fan of Minecraft mods.
Another interesting feature of the Ice and Fire mod is the addition of new quests and structures. The mod introduces various structures, including dragon caves, dungeons, and ruins that players can explore and loot for valuable items. Players can also take on new quests and challenges that involve fighting dragons and other mythical creatures.
The mod also includes new sounds and animations, which make the dragons and other creatures feel more alive and realistic. The dragons, in particular, have unique animations for different actions, such as breathing fire or taking off in flight.
Overall, the Ice and Fire mod is a comprehensive and well-designed mod that adds a lot of new content to Minecraft. It’s a great choice for players who want to add more fantasy elements to their game and enjoy exploring new biomes and structures. However, like any other mod, it’s important to check compatibility and version requirements before installing the mod to ensure a smooth gameplay experience.
Pixie
There are Pixie villages located near dark forests where small female fairies reside. Although they won’t attack players, they can be quite bothersome as they have the ability to steal anything the player is holding in their offhand. If the player loses their item to a Pixie, they can retrieve it by attacking the Pixie. It’s worth noting that Pixies can even steal entire stacks of items. However, players can disable this feature by crafting a jar, capturing the Pixie, collecting Pixie dust while it’s relaxed, and then releasing it.
To tame a Pixie, players can feed it cake. Once tamed, Pixies will follow the player, but can also be told to sit down. Tamed Pixies can provide the player with certain effects, such as pink strength, purple jump boost, blue speed, green luck, and yellow haste. Upon death, Pixies will drop Pixie dust, or very rarely, a PC wing. The Pixie dust can be used to create a legendary weapon called Pixie Stuff, which uses Pixie dust as ammunition. Players can also create a new banner pattern using Pixie dust.
Hippocampus
While exploring oceans or deep ocean biomes, players may come across Hippocampi. These creatures come in different colors and will drop shiny scales, which can be used to make a potion of water breathing. Rarely, they also drop their fin, which can be used to create a legendary weapon called the Slapper. This weapon has the ability to slow down and confuse enemies due to its unusual nature of being slapped with a fin. The sound effect of using the Slapper is particularly enjoyable.
Hippocampi can be tamed with kelp and will follow the player while holding it. Sneaking will allow players to access their inventory. Players can equip Hippocampi with horse armor to make them more protected against attacks, a chest to gain additional inventory space, and a saddle to ride them. Riding a Hippocampus underwater grants players the ability to breathe underwater. Although they can also be ridden on land, they are quite slow. It’s important to note that Hippocampi will still roam wherever they want, so players should either lure them into an enclosure or lead them elsewhere. They can also be bred using prismarine crystals.
Hippogryph
Hippogryph can be found in various biomes such as savannas, deserts, mountains, dark forests, hills, or snowy regions, and their color patterns differ depending on the biome. They are usually neutral unless they are hungry, and they prefer smaller prey like rabbits.
This makes them tamable with rabbit feet. Once tamed, they will sit down and can be equipped with a chest, cell, or special Hippogryph armor made with two feathers and a normal horse armor. While riding a Hippogryph, players can use its strike attack by pressing ‘G’. They can also interact with it using a stick to tell it to sit or wander. In case it starts flying away, players can use the dragon flute to command it to land. Additionally, Hippogryph will try to defend the player from hostile enemies. Players can sneak with a stick or dragon’s command staff to set its home. Breeding Hippogryph with rabbit stew will produce a baby Hippogryph, but it won’t be tamed. Players can see all available colors in their baby state, with the snowy variant being a popular favorite. Feeding a Hippogryph a glistering melon will transform it into a dodo, despite its little wings. Hippogryph have two special drops, the talon, which can be used to craft a legendary weapon that deals more damage, and the skull, which can be placed in a player’s base or made into bone meal or a new banner pattern.
Amphithere
These winged creatures, called “envy fair”, can be found in jungles and come in various colors. They are normally neutral and will not attack unless provoked. To tame them, players should try to shoot them with arrows or snowballs to bring them down from the sky. Once close enough, players can ride and tame them with golden apples after a minute or so.
Once tamed, the envy fair will defend the player and kill any hostiles that threaten nearby villagers, including dragons. However, they cannot stop mid-air and will always continue to glide. Players can make them sit, wander, or follow by sneak clicking on them. To breed them, use cookies.
The envy fair has two drops: feathers and skulls. Feathers can be used to make a new banner pattern or powerful arrows that knock back enemies. The skulls can be used to make a legendary weapon that also knocks enemies into the air and disables shields. Alternatively, the skull can be converted into bone meal or placed as a trophy.
Siren
Firstly, these dangerous creatures called sirens spawn on rocky islands near beaches, luring players with their seductive singing and mermaid-like appearance, only to transform into hideous nagas that want to devour them. Wearing earplugs near them renders their singing useless. Sirens have two rare drops: shiny scales like hippocampi and very rarely, siren tears. Shiny scales can be used to make a potion of water breathing, but when combined with siren tears, they can make the legendary weapon, the Siren Flute. This flute can make certain enemies fall in love with you for 10 seconds, preventing them from attacking you. Additionally, the shiny scales can be used to craft prismarine crystals and shards.
Death Worm
Giant and miniature creatures inhabit the deserts, attacking anything that comes too close, including players and dragons. Their lunging attacks from beneath the sand, using their tongues, can cause significant damage. Although they are typically small, it’s possible to come across a giant death worm. One effective method of killing them is to lure them into water and drop TNT near them, then retreat. After consuming the TNT, they will eventually die. While wild worms cannot be tamed, one of their drops can produce a death worm or a giant death worm.
Once hatched, the death worm starts out tiny but grows over time, patrolling within a 50-block radius of its spawn area. It neither follows nor defends you or animals, only attacking hostile mobs. Death worms can be ridden even when untamed by holding two fishing rods in your hands, though it’s not recommended as it can be lethal or corrupt the world. Their rare drops are their tongue and skin, which can be used to create three variants of armor, or combined with chains to create the legendary weapon, Death Worm Gauntlet. The weapon lashes out at its target with the worm’s tongue, dealing three damage and pulling them towards the player. Cockatrice is a terrifying creature that saps the light from anything.
Cockatrice
These chicken-like creatures roam around in savannas, and have an intense stare. They come in four different colors, and their attacks work by shooting out a beam that inflicts nausea and slowness when you look directly at them. When you look away, they will run towards you and try to scratch you to death. Wearing a blindfold can prevent this, but it will cause them to attack you right away. As they are part chicken, they will try to save chickens from predators like dragons.
Taming a wild cockatrice is very hard, and if you don’t have region 900 thousand, you have to survive its stare long enough for its willpower to break and for it to start serving you. A good strategy is to look at it, eat some food, and then continue the staring contest. If you don’t have the nerves for this, there’s an easier way – there’s a rare chance that a chicken will lay a rotten egg. By making a chicken farm using hoppers, you can get a rotten egg and hatch a tamed cockatrice. You can make it sit, wander, follow, patrol, and heal it with seeds or rotten flesh, but they cannot be bred.
Upon death, they can drop bones, feathers, and two rare drops – their skull and their eye. The skull can be used as a trophy or for bone meal, while the eye can be combined with wither bone shards and a bone to get a legendary weapon called the Cockatrice Scepter. This weapon can wither multiple targets, making you a powerful Cockatrice Stymphalian bird.
Stymphalian Bird
These are bloodthirsty swarm creatures that shoot metallic feathers at their prey. Beware, as they can spawn in groups of 3 to 20 and hate everything, including players, animals, and villagers. They have a detection range of 64 blocks, so be cautious. If a player manages to kill one of the group, the whole group will try to fly away. A good strategy would be to wear armor enchanted with projectile protection, as well as carrying a bow, since they tend to fly up to start attacking.
The drops from these creatures include iron, iron nuggets, copper, copper nuggets, and two rare drops: copper, a new ore found throughout the world, and their feathers and skull. Copper is worse than iron but better than leather, and you can make a whole tool and armor set out of it. The skull can be used as a trophy or to gain bone meal. The feathers can be used to make bundles that shoot eight feathers at once around you, or to make powerful arrows that will soar like birds due to their metallic shape. Lastly, a dagger can be made from the feathers, which is really speedy and allows for spamming the attack. Beware, as trolls are not only found in caves – these nasty creatures are lurking around everywhere.
Troll
Trolls are lurking in every corner of caves, desperately trying to spot a lost miner to devour. Firstly, there are different textures for these creatures, and they are even equipped with different weapons. The forest troll, mountain troll, and snow troll are the three types of trolls. Let me know which model you like the most and any comments you may have. These creatures spawn in snowy tundras, forests, and mountains, but sometimes you can even encounter them in dragon caves. A really cool feature is that if they see daylight, they will turn to stone. You can break this with a pickaxe. Their attacks include striking down with their club, swiping with it, and even smashing obstacles when rushing to you. They repel any sort of arrow, meaning the only way to defeat them is in melee combat.
To dilute this one is a bit more difficult as each troll has different drops. Firstly, all three types of trolls will grant you with their leather, with which you can make three new armor sets. But for the edit, you also need two tusks, which are dropped by all of them. The reason why you should use this armor against stemphalian birds is that you can repel any sort of arrows. So, you basically only have to deal with their melee attacks, which makes these spells way easier. Tusks can also be used to create bone meal or to make a new banner pattern. You can also get their head, which can be converted into bone meal or placed as a trophy.
Now, we get to the last rows, which are unique for every troll class. The troll axe and troll hammer can be obtained from any type of troll. The tree trunk can only be dropped by frost trolls, the stone column by forest and mountain trolls (they mostly call it the forest troll), and the last two, the frosted tree trunk and frosted column, are dropped by the frost troll. Lastly, they can also drop more common items. Forest trolls drop mushrooms and oakwood, mountain trolls drop emeralds and frost snowballs, and frost trolls drop spruce wood and sapphires. Another new wall can be found throughout the world and can be made into blocks. There’s also another use for ice dragons, but more about that later when we talk about eye strength memorax. These ant-like creatures can generate with their nests in jungles or deserts. These families resemble ant colonies and have different characteristics.
Myrmex
There are five different types of appearances with varying costs in this scenario. The smallest ones are the workers whose task is to search for resources and kill prey outside of the hive. These resources are then stored in cocoons and food rooms. The soldiers, on the other hand, are bigger versions of the workers and their job is to protect them and kill prey, accompanying them wherever they go. Sentinels resemble scorpions and are the most deadly, waiting near the entrance to the hive to ambush intruders or prey. Royals are similar to workers but are much larger and have wings, enabling them to fly out of the hive to find a mate. The queen is the largest and most important member of the colony, laying eggs as the only source of reproduction. If the queen is killed, the entire colony will perish.
Before the memrex grow up, they go through three stages: egg, larva, and pupa. The interesting part of this scenario is trading with the workers. If specific resin chunks are given to the workers, the player’s reputation will increase. Once the reputation reaches 50, trading perks are unlocked, allowing the player to trade with every part of the colony. Trading with the queen is the best way to obtain eggs for the player’s own colony. If a player achieves a reputation of 75, they can control the hive with a mimetic staff, enabling them to delete rooms, control the queen’s reproduction, and add new rooms. However, certain features of the scenario may not work due to broken AI in the latest version.
There are three different items that memrex drop: kaiten chunks, stingers, and resin chunks. The kaiten chunks can be used to create armor and tool sets, while the stingers can be combined with kaiten to create the mimetic staff and a new weapon that inflicts poison. Resin chunks can be used for trading and to make new blocks, including cocoons and light-emitting plants. If the player obtains five worker eggs, they can make the legendary weapon, the mimetic swarm. Additionally, there are sea serpents, marine creatures that resemble underwater dragons and are found in deep oceans.
Sea Serpent
Biomes: Sea serpents are marine creatures similar to underwater dragons that roam in deep ocean. If they spot prey, they will even leap out of the water to get to it, so you’re not safe on land either. Legends say there are even ancient sea serpents so gigantic that they are rival to a stage 5 dragon. Sea serpents drop three items: their skull, their fang, and their scales, which are available in all colors.
Their skull can be used as a trophy or to make bone meal. Their fang can be used to make a banner pattern, new arrows that don’t mind water pressure, and a legendary weapon, the Tide Trident, which is much more powerful. Lastly, their scales can be used to make six new armor sets, but to obtain each piece, you also need shiny scales obtained by killing sirens or hippocampi. The armor gives you water breathing and strength when wet, and the strength multiplier depends on how many parts of the armor you’re currently wearing, which can be up to strength 4. This even applies when it’s raining. Ghosts haunt graveyards.
Ghost
During the nighttime, entities such as ghosts can be found lurking in the catacombs of graveyards. A cursed chest can also be discovered within these catacombs, which spawns ghosts upon being opened and contains loot. Although the ghosts that spawn from the chest won’t drop anything, there is a rare Easter egg where a floating paper with a ghost on it can be found as a reference to Spongebob. The only issue with these mobs is that they cannot be killed normally; silver weapons are required to deal damage to them. This brings us to the new resource found throughout the world – silver, a new ore that can be used to create armor and tools.
Compared to iron, the silver armor is slightly weaker, but the sword is more effective when fighting undead mobs, as it deals an additional 2 points of damage. To farm ghosts, simply place graveyard soil (which can be found in graveyards or crafted with ectoplasm) and wait for them to spawn. Ghosts that spawn from grave soil can drop ectoplasm or, rarely, phantasmal ingots. Ectoplasm, which can also be found in catacombs, can be used to make graveyard soil or cursed chests to scare your friends. Phantasmal ingots only have one use, which is to upgrade a dragonbone sword to obtain a phantasmal blade, one of the most powerful weapons in the game. This blade fires spinning swords as an attack that can even penetrate through blocks, making it incredibly effective against ghosts. During the daytime, ghosts will enter a dormant state, becoming invisible and immune to all forms of damage. They will become active again during the nighttime. There are also many bosses to contend with, such as the gorgon.
Gorgon
The Gorgon spawns in Gorgon Temples located near beaches. When you enter the temple, you will hear laughter and hissing, indicating that the Gorgon has spawned. To reach the bottom layer, you can either break the blocks or activate the two levers. Any mob spawning in the bottom layer will be turned into stone by the Gorgon. To defeat the Gorgon, you need to be properly equipped, so craft a blindfold and wear it. In this clip, I don’t have night or vision, so you can get a feel for how difficult it is to see, even with a torch.
In this mode, the Gorgon will try to kill you with melee attacks such as poison, but if you maintain distance, it’s an easy win. Upon death, the Gorgon drops her head. The main purpose of the head is that you can turn one mob of your choice into stone. There’s no cure to transform mobs back; the only thing you can do is break them. This is a one-use item, or you can use the head to make a new banner pattern that looks like this. Cyclops, giant monsters with one eye, can spawn in their caves or in the open air.
Cyclops
On the beaches, you can find chests filled with valuable items, and sheep grazing around like they own the place. Additionally, there are Cyclops monsters that can be found wandering through the plains or savannah biomes, often accompanied by a few sheep. To defeat them, shooting them with a bow is the best tactic, preferably with Amphithear arrows.
You can also use a cheap disguise by sneaking and wearing it, but it doesn’t seem to work for me right now. Alternatively, shooting the Cyclops in the eye will make it blind and unable to detect you if you’re more than four blocks away. When defeated, it drops its eye or skull. The skull can be displayed as a trophy or turned into bone meal, and its eye can be used to create a banner pattern or a legendary weapon that deals an area of effect inflicting weakness. The Hydras, on the other hand, are even tougher to defeat. They spawn in the swamp hydra layers.
Hydra
You can come across chests filled with loot as well as the three-headed hydra in its lair in the swamp. The hydra attacks by spitting venom and using melee attacks to finish you off. The only way to defeat it is to set it on fire and keep it burning long enough that it loses all of its heads. To counteract the venom, you can use regen potions, golden apples, or buckets of milk. Its drops include fangs, a skull, and a heart, which can be used as a trophy or converted into bone meal. The fangs can be crafted into arrows that both poison and leech life from enemies. The heart is a legendary weapon that grants regeneration based on how much life you have left when held in the hotbar. As for dragons, there are three types: fire, ice, and lightning.
Dragons
There are two types of dragons in the game: ice and lightning. On the surface, only stage 1 to 3 dragons will spawn, while the larger ones will spawn underground in cabins at stages four to five. Fire dragons will spawn in planes, forests, and other warm volumes, but you won’t find them in icy biomes. Meanwhile, lightning dragons can only be found in jungle, savannah, and badland biomes. Sometimes, you can find dragon remains in cold biomes and savannas, which can be looted for bones. Each type of dragon has different loot, including different ores in its cave. In addition, you can find manuscripts and a new item called chains in these biomes. Chains are similar to leads, but you cannot break them, and you can leash them to walls. Sticky ones allow you to stick two mobs together, which can be hilarious. Fire dragons drop gold and vanilla oats, while ice dragons drop silver and sapphires. Lightning dragons drop amethyst and copper.
To loot a dragon, right-click its torso to gain drops. The drops include scales, heart, flash, skull, and bones. The last thing you can get is dragon blood, which is crucial for a process we will talk about later. To prevent scales, flash, heart, or eggs from dropping, interact with glass bowls. Underground dragons can sometimes drop eggs, with females at stage four dropping four to five eggs, and males at stage five dropping three to four.
As an advice, equip yourself with good vanilla loot, such as diamond, before trying to conquer a small dragon. Then, hunt them down until you get a full dragon armor set, as this is really powerful against dragon breath attacks. Also, equip yourself with the infinity ball and some golden apples or regen potions. Good luck conquering a stage 4 or 5 dragon.
The normal drops from dragons include dragon bones, which can be used to make blocks and walls or as a new toolset in a sword plus bow and arrows. The sword is better than diamond, and the bow and arrow can all one-shot most vanilla mobs. The tools are maybe even a bit faster than diamond, but you need wither bones for this set. Skulls can be turned into bone meal and kept as trophies. The size and color depend on the type and stage of the dead dragon. You can convert it into bone meal or use it to make three new banner patterns. You can also use it to make dragon stuff, but more about that later. The heart can be used to make a banner pattern or to make the core of the dragon, which we will discuss later when we talk about the dragonforge. Scales can be used to make armor sets. Here, you can see all scales available and all armor sets. These armor sets are more immune to dragon breath attacks, so you should wear them when fighting one of the bigger dragons. Flash can only be used to eat it, and different types of dragons will give different effects, such as slowness for ice dragons, fire for fire dragons, and lightning strikes for lightning dragons.
To hatch eggs, you need to put them in a specific environment. Fire eggs need to be in fire, lightning eggs can only hatch if it’s raining or thundering, and ice eggs need to be surrounded by ice and placed water in the middle. Wait until the ice spreads, and voila, it’s hatching. After they hatch, they will grow very slowly. When they are still small, you can put them on your shoulder with a right click and shift to drop them. If you want to speed up their growth, you can always craft some dragon meals. There’s also a sickly meal, which doesn’t allow your
Sapphires can be found again in the cavern, or as a new ore. These new oils can only be crafted into blocks, but nothing else. The Summoning Crystal allows players to teleport a dragon to them when used on a dragon, which is very overpowered. It needs to be reactivated after every use. To breed two dragons of the same type, players need a new breeding mixture. Firstly, they should check if their dragons are one female and one male with a shift click. Secondly, players can find lilies needed for the new breeding mixture in specific biomes. Each dragon type has its own lily. Fire lilies can be found in deserts or in the Nether, ice lilies can be found in ice plains or glaciers, and lightning lilies can be found in the savannah or in the master biome. Players need to mix these with one specific resource in a bowl: fire with blaze rods, frost with prismarine crystals, and lightning with chorus fruit. They need to give the mixture firstly to the male and then to the female upon breeding. One dragon will generate a nest with an egg surrounded by dragon bone blocks, which players can also craft. Now, onto the last and probably most epic chapter of dragons: the Dragonforge. Those players who have mastered dragon taming are granted the ability to fuse dragon blood with resources. Firstly, players need to build it. The Dragonforge is made out of three layers, and for each string type, players need a different forge, but the build is the same. They need 17 bricks, one aperture, one core, and eight dragon bone blocks for each forge. The only difference is that players use French scales and a different heart for the core. The first layer is built like the last layer: players make a cross out of the bricks and add any corners bone blocks. The middle layer contains the core and the aperture. Firstly, players make a U-shaped form out of the bricks, then add the core in the middle and the last slot for the aperture. Lastly, players make the first cross out of bricks and fill it with bone blocks. If built correctly, the forge shows an oven-like texture on this side. Now, players need to get their tame dragon near the aperture and let it sit there. They should fill the forge with iron and blood, and the dragon will start to breathe into the forge, making dragon steel. I don’t recommend placing the Dragonforge in your base, of course. Players can make equipment out of dragon steel. The armor protects them even more against dragon breath attacks and has more durability. The tool set even has special effects: fire will ignite enemies and knock them back, ice will freeze them, and lightning strikes will break anything instantly. Players can also make dragon armor out of this, but they need blocks to do so and a ton of dragon blood and iron.
Dreadqueen
At the time of making this video, the boss known as the Dread Queen has not yet been added to the game. However, players can still explore the dungeon which serves as the gateway to her dimension. These dungeons are dark and intricate structures made of impenetrable dreadstone, which can generate in cold biomes. The dungeon’s dreadwood doors can only be unlocked using a grave master’s key, obtained by defeating a Dread Glitch that can be found within the dungeon.
The dungeon is filled with deadly mobs that spawn from numerous spawners. Players should be well-prepared and careful not to trigger any explosions while exploring it. However, the rewards for braving the dungeon are worth it, as players can find loot such as an ice dragonforge core and bricks within.
The mobs found within the dungeon include trolls, skeletons with blue eyes, and zombies with visible abs. They may carry weapons or items such as bones, chainmail, and red or dread shards. Beasts, which are fast-moving, dog-like creatures, can also be found within. They drop rotten flesh and dread shards. Scuttlers, which are large spiders, drop shards and spider eyes, and are mainly found in the entrance room. Dread knights are the most dangerous of the mobs, dealing massive damage and having a high amount of health. They mainly drop bones, iron, and their swords. If players encounter a Dread Knight horse, it means that a lich has killed a horse, and if they manage to keep it alive, they can even ride it.
